The foundation was created in 2023 with Moyamoya research at its heart, and that remains the focus of our most meaningful giving through multiple donations. We saw our mission reflected in the work of Dr. James P. Klaas, lead neurologist for The Mayo Clinic Moyamoya Research Fund in Rochester, MN. Dr. Klaas, together with his clinical team, focuses on comprehensive and multidisciplinary research, diagnostic testing and advanced imaging techniques to effectively diagnose and treat Moyamoya disease.
With the assistance of the St. Paul Capitals Association Board of Directors, our inaugural donation established the Cormick Cup Hockey Tournament which hosts 24 Squirt B and C level teams each January at the Charles M. Schulz arena. It is a special privilege to endow and partner with the Capitals on this tourney at the Chuck each year, where Cormick played all of his home games from ages 4-16.
Our donation aided in the purchase of a new field maintenance machine. With so many cherished memories of Mick playing at the Ford Fields, we regard this as a meaningful way to honor him by keeping those fields groomed and game ready for the current Little Leaguers.
In addition to sponsoring some athletes for a preseason spring training trip to Florida in Spring 2025, the foundation made a gift to the CDH Baseball Program to help fund the construction of a new storage shed & concession stand on the Varsity baseball field. The multi-purpose building will help facilitate field use, while enhancing the game day experience for fans and players in the years to come. Combining his love of baseball and snacks, we can’t think of a more fitting tribute to Mick.
In Winter 2025, the foundation donated to the CDH Hockey Program to alleviate rising player participation costs. The CDH hockey
community, led by Matt Funk, has been instrumental in honoring and promoting Cormick’s legacy. Notably, On February 1, 2025, the CDH girls’ and boys’ JV and Varsity hockey teams participated in the inaugural ‘Live Like Mick Day’ at the Charles Schulz Ice
Arena. Organized and staffed by parents of all four CDH hockey teams, the day featured four successive games highlighted by commemorative ‘Live Like Mick’ jerseys worn by all the Raider players.
In his Bantam hockey year, Mick was introduced to the DinoMights Hockey organization when his team collected
equipment to donate to their players. Using hockey as an incentive, DinoMights provides academic tutoring, mentoring, computer instruction, studies, camping, community service and various other activities that help fulfill their mission to develop physical, academic and social excellence. We believe their objective aligns perfectly with our foundational giving goals and is an inspiring organization to support.
